We are absolutely thrilled to present the Karla Cape designed by Anne Ventzel dans les laines Isager.

Anne writes about her design

KARLA CAPE is my contribution to the collaborative collection, ISAGER ARCHIVES. The collection is inspired by the knitting patterns of Åse Lund Jensen, from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.
My design is based on a pattern called BRIKKER, which features a cape and a matching beanie. I was drawn to the graphic slipped stitch pattern in the original design and have reinterpreted it for KARLA CAPE. I like the concept of wearing a cape over your clothing, but I find it somewhat inconvenient in practical terms. When you’re moving through your daily routine, you need your clothes to be functional and fit well. For this reason, I have decided to modify the design into a more controlled form, such as a spacious cardigan with a half sleeve.

The slipped stitch pattern is a simple technique that lets you knit a two-color pattern using only one color at a time. This means the knitting appears stranded or Fair Isle but knitted with only one color at a time. As a result, this method is beginner-friendly and much easier to knit.

The Pattern

  • You will find the Pattern on Anne Ventzel and on Ravelry

The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. First, the back yoke is worked, and then short rows are worked across the shoulders to create a perfect fit. The fronts are worked similarly after the back yoke is completed. The back and front yoke pieces are joined at the underarms to form the body, which is worked back and forth to the hem. After this, stitches are picked up and knitted for the neck edge, which is worked back and forth, and then the front edges are worked the same way. At the end, stitches are picked up and knitted along the armholes for the sleeves, which are worked with short rows along the top part to optimize the fit.
All edges are worked in twisted rib and bound off using the Italian bind-off technique.
